The Hottest Item for the At-Home Trader

By Larry Jacobs, Editor, Traders World magazine

The hottest item for the at-home trader is the computer multiple-monitor desk stand with attached flat-panel monitors. A popular monitor for this desk stand is the Viewsonic 19-inch, thin-edge flat panel with the ultra-slim bezel design shown above. This screen has a 170-degree extreme wide viewing angle with an excellent video response to deliver top performance for the trader.

Viewsonic sells these monitors in multiples of four to be used with the desk stands. This allows the trader to configure a number of monitors to fit his trading style with the desk stand configuration of his choice. The desk stands can be configured in a quad, dual-wide twin, four horizontal wide or in many other setups.

Having a multiple-monitor desk stand setup allows the trader to have several screens for what he is watching. He does not have to switch from one screen to another screen and lose his concentration and miss an important trade. The nice thing about these stands is that they allow traders to have all the screens pointed at them in the right angle.

The most popular setup is having two screens for charts, one screen for order entry and news and one screen for a chat room. Some traders are even allocating one screen for watching CNBC using a TV video card. All the cords from the screens can be neatly tucked behind the stand, giving a neat-looking desktop without the clutter.

These screens are powered by multiple-port video cards. The most popular video card is the Nividia Quadro NVS 400, which outputs to four screens. A second one can be added to give an additional four screens (a total of eight).

Generally, you should have at least a Pentium 4 computer to power this type of multiple-screen setup. All you need to do is add one or two Nividia NVS 400 video cards, the monitors and stands.

What has made these screens so popular is the decline in prices in recent months. Twelve months ago 19-inch, flat-panel monitors cost up to $1,000. Today, they are only approximately $750. The only problem is that desk stand setups are now so popular that there are shortages of these screens. Many retailers are sold out and have them backordered.
