Maximizing Your eSignal Workspace -- Tips and Hints

For some users, squeezing the most out of their monitor's screen size is very important. Whether you are using 1 monitor or 8, eSignal has several built-in ways to take advantage of as much screen real estate as possible. In addition to simply resizing each window and altering font sizes (common Microsoft Windows features), you might want to experiment with some or all of the following techniques:

Shrinking / Hiding the Title Bar

There is an icon in the top right corner of each window . This will remove the title bar and replace it with a thin blue line. The thin blue line serves a similar purpose to that of the title bar. You can grab the thin title bar to drag the window to a different area of your screen. Also, you can double click on the thin title bar to maximize the window.

Moving / Displaying / Hiding Toolbars

A variety of separate tool bars within eSignal are designed to give users a shortcut to common functions and features. Each of these toolbars can be displayed, hidden or moved to alternate locations.  From the main eSignal Toolbar, click on the View menu. You'll see a list of toolbars either checked or unchecked. Simply check the ones you want displayed and uncheck the ones you want hidden. You can quickly undo your selection by returning to the View menu at any time.

To move a Toolbar, the easiest method is to grab the left end, where you'll see a gray vertical line indicating the start of that particular toolbar, by holding down the left-click button of your mouse. Move to the desired location and release the left-click button. Don't forget to save the page or layout.

If you move the toolbar off the main gray menu area at the top of your screen, you'll notice that a title bar will appear for that menu. Once that toolbar is "undocked", you can use either edge to resize the toolbar from a horizontal line to one long vertical bar or something in between. Once you dock it back up in the main menu area, the toolbar will return to its default vertical shape.

Stacking Studies in an Advanced Chart

As you add certain new studies to a chart, a separate pane (or tile) is created to graphically display each formula. To save space, you can elect stack studies. When you do so, each of the lower panes gets moved to a separate tab and is displayed in order in the lower left corner of the chart. Just click each tab to rotate between studies or revert back to tile studies to see them all on the screen at the same time. Simply right-click on the chart to see the Tile or Stack studies options.

Using Pop-Out (a.k.a. Floating) Windows

Pop-out windows, also commonly referred to as floating windows, give the user the ability to detach a window and move it outside of the main framework of the eSignal program. You'll find this functionality invaluable if you are multi-tasking with other applications and need to view just a few individual eSignal windows at a time.
