Keyboard Customization in eSignal

Keyboard Customization allows the user to create his or her own keyboard shortcuts for many of the commands and menu items used in eSignal. This feature helps users quickly access frequently used functions and windows.

Type New Shortcut Key

To create a keyboard shortcut, click on Tools, then Customize Keyboard. Select a command from the Commands list. We've used New Page in the example shown subsequently. Click the field under Type New Shortcut Key and press the key(s) you want to associate the keyboard shortcut with. You'll notice that a combination of keystrokes can be used (popular variations include the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys). Once you've entered the shortcut key, click the Assign button and you're ready to go. Using the example shown, we've assigned the F11 key to open a new page in eSignal.

Existing Shortcuts

A few shortcuts have already been assigned. Under the File Menu, popular shortcuts include Open File (Ctrl+O), Print (Ctrl+P) and Exit all and Save (Ctrl+E):

In the Quote window, helpful shortcuts exist for Inserting a Row (Ctrl+I) or Heading (Ctrl+H) in addition to the traditional Windows shortcuts for Cut (Ctrl+X), Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V):

Reset All and Remove Buttons

It's possible to assign new keys for existing shortcuts. If you wish to restore the default settings, you can use the Reset All button in the Customize Keyboard dialog box that will return the original windows keyboard settings. Additionally, you can select an Assigned Key and click the Remove button to eliminate keyboard shortcuts on an individual basis.

Template

The ability to create a custom template is available by clicking the New Template button. This allows a user to assign different keyboard shortcuts for the same action using a new template.

To use this feature, select the New Template button and assign the template a new name. Enter new shortcuts using the instructions described under the Type New Shortcut Key mentioned previously. All the templates will be available in the dropdown menu under Template Manager.
