Using Multiple Monitors….Pop-Out Windows

eSignal users can configure their pages and layouts across multiple monitors. The most common way to do it is by stretching the program to cover an ‘x’ number of monitors, then moving windows within that area. The other way is by using the Pop-Out Windows feature.

Pop-Out Windows

Pop-out windows, also commonly referred to as “floating windows”, give the user the ability to detach a window and move it outside the main framework of the eSignal program. Each window in eSignal has a “pop-out icon” located on the title bar. The pop-out icon is blue with a tiny arrow.  If the arrow in the icon is pointing outside the box, the window is in the program  .

If it shows an arrow pointing inside the box, the pop-out feature has been activated, and the window is outside the program .

As soon as the pop-out feature is activated, an icon that looks like a thumbnail will display in the title bar. This new icon enables the user to lock the window in place and, if it's placed on top of another program or window, it will always stay in front.

Once the users pop out a window, it will appear as a separate window in the Windows Taskbar. The user can position this pop-out window just about anywhere -- even across multiple monitors.
Once the detached windows are placed on the multiple monitors, the user must save the page or layout, so the windows will retain their position the next time eSignal is open.

Redocking Floating Windows

The user can redock pop-out windows by clicking the pop-out icon in the floating window . For example, if the window is an Advanced Chart, the user can right click the mouse inside the chart, select “View” from the drop-down menu and, then, click “Float / Dock Window”. In the case of a Quote Window, the user can go to “Quote Options” in the menu bar and click on “Float / Dock Window” (Figure 1).

If the page or layout has multiple windows detached from the program, and the user would like to bring all those windows back into the program without having to click the pop-out icon on each window, he or she can go to the menu bar in the program and click “Window”, then “Redock Floating Windows” (Figure 2). All floating windows will be back in the program.

The benefits of using pop-out windows in multiple monitors could be endless -- from using a pop-out chart window on top of another application and being able to lock the window in place with the “Always on Top” command, to being able to detach a News Window and watch eSignal news while the user is checking his / her email messages.
