How Do I Use the Autolink
Feature in eSignal?

Autolinking lets you link all the windows in the active layout based on a particular symbol. When you use the autolinking feature and enter a symbol in the eSignal Toolbar symbol box or Detail window, that symbol is automatically entered into any linked window you specify.

You can link eSignal windows two ways:

1.

Toolbar Method: eSignal's main toolbar contains a new symbol entry field. You can enter a symbol that you wish to follow closely into this window and then link to data for this symbol from other window types by clicking the Link toolbar in these other windows.

Let's say that you have a Chart window open for another symbol (INTC). If you want to switch to a Chart window for QQQ, just click the Link toolbar button in the Chart window. Once you click the Link button, the chart changes to a chart for QQQ or an Options window for QQQ. The toolbar method of autolinking is also supported in Level II and Options windows.

2.

Detail Window Method: When you set up autolinking from a Detail window, you can link your Detail window symbol to a broader array of window and information types, including news and research.

Windows that can be linked to a symbol in the Detail window include the Chart, Options, Nasdaq Level II and the News (Text Manager) windows. Before you select a window for linking, you must save it. You can also select from a list of research URLs to display information in the embedded browser window.

How does the symbol count work? How can I maintain this?
When you enter a symbol in any window within eSignal, the program starts tracking it. This includes all quote windows, charts, portfolios, Level II, options, etc. If a window is minimized, it still counts as an open window and will reflect your limit. Alerts will also count toward your symbol limit if you have set an alert for a symbol that does not exist in any other window.

To maintain this, be sure not to enter more symbols than you are allowed. If you are sure that you have no more than you are allowed, you can force the program to "recount" what you have. To do this, click on File, then Preferences, in eSignal. In that box, click on the Clear Cache button.

How do I set up email alerts in eSignal?
If you have access to Internet mail via a computer, pager or cell phone, you can have alert notifications sent to you. When an alert is triggered, the application sends an email message with the alert information to the address you specify in the Alert Edit/Status dialog box. The email address and other information you enter remain valid until you change them.

When you set up email notification, you need to enter the IP address of the SMTP host that handles your email. If you're already receiving email through a web browser, the address is probably listed in the Preferences dialog box of your browser. You can also get the address from your Internet Service Provider. After setting up email notification, you can choose to send email each time you set an alert.

To set up email alert notification:

1. Select Set Alerts from the View menu (Alt-V, -A) or click the Set Alerts icon on the toolbar. Alternatively, right click the symbol; then, choose Set Alert from the menu that appears. The Alert Edit/Status dialog box opens.
2. Click the Email Alert box and then click the Settings button. The Email Settings box opens.
3. In the To field, enter the address to which you want mail to be sent.
4. In the From field, enter the address of the email sender. (Note that the address in this field can be the same as the address in the To field.)
5. In the SMTP Hosts field, enter the IP address of your outgoing mail server.
6. Click OK.
